It’s all over the news today – up to a third of breast cancer cases in Western countries could be avoided with a nutritious diet and exercise. (This was announced at a conference in Spain this week – http://tinyurl.com/yalf9s7 for the full story.)
Wow that is so powerful! We do have control over our own health.
How much time do you make for exercise?
Do you get too busy to go to the gym?
Do you find that you force yourself to go because you know you should?
Do you watch the clock and wish away the time when you’re at the gym?
If exercise is a chore, find something fun to do and it will be a totally different experience I promise. You’ll get so much more out of it and will want to keep going back for more. Take up ballroom dancing, do belly-dancing lessons (maybe not if you’re a guy!), start playing tennis again or try something fun and new. This last summer we took windsurfing lessons and it was a total blast.
The windy season is just starting again and we were out on the local lake on Saturday and I could have stayed out all day. Exercise, healthy, laughter, fresh air, sunshine, companionship and most of all – pure fun! Now that is what exercise should be! Get out here and have fun ok?

That definitely looks like fun!
I remember watching my Dad windsurf, it was fun to be a watcher too
Fun is the key to sustaining health and fitness
Thanks Trudy

I am NOT a gym person. I LOVE doing all the things you mentioned — even yardwork over going to the gym. It feels so great to do things outdoors. Last weekend I went for two amazing kayak adventures, including getting up close and personal with a seal and a swan — can’t do THAT at the gym! -:¦:- ♥ -:¦:-

Katherine – your kayak adventures with the seal and swan sound divine!

This is so incredibly important, especially for us multi-passionate entrepreneurs! I finally made the decision to get back into a work-out schedule this year, and it has made such a radical difference in my mood, energy level and mental and emotional clarity. To know that it is also helping me prevent cancer….that is such a huge bonus!
I’m not a gym person either, but have found that I get the best workout at the gym. So, I make the best of the gym several times a week, which then gives me core strength and stamina for my favorite activities like riding my horses, playing golf and chasing after my energetic 6 year old! 🙂
everywomanover29 says
Jessica – it sounds like you have the perfect balance – good for you! and so pleased you notice the benefits! and yes, what a bonus to also prevent cancer (and heart disease and depression too)

Trudy I love that you have fun and get exercise at the same time. I’m one of those ‘head’ people who hates to sweat! So I practice and teach yoga (and I do sweat!). Making a committment to teach a class forces me to be there and do it and when I do, I love it!
Then there is walking the dog who is so, so happy when we are walking she actually prances and her eyes dance. I love to see her so happy and that is the motivation that helps me do it.
Let’s remember that all this helps prevent osteoporosis too!
Thanks Trudy,
Lynn

Lynn – I love yoga too and walking is so great too. The big thing is getting the benefits (and yes, bone health is a big one too) and experiencing joy and you certainly do!

Trudy,
I just lost a dear friend to breast cancer yesterday. She left behind a husband, 5 children and 5 grandchildren. So many people look at exercise as a necessary evil, but as you pointed out it can be so much fun! You are a great example of how it can be. I loved your picture!

Great reminder Trudy – I have a girlfriend who is only 35 and is being treated for breast cancer so this was very timely.
I have a wonderful puppy Chops and she will not let my day begin without a morning walk – a great motivator to have her cute little eyes staring at me from beside my bed at 5.30am every morning!
Cheers

You describe Chops and her cute little eyes so well, I’m smiling with joy just reading your post – such a cute name too!
PS Sorry to hear about your girlfriend – Does she know about the Gerson program for cancer? and the Ralph Moss reports? If it was me, I would start here before resorting to conventional treatment. I did my internship with nutritionist and cancer expert Ellyn Hilliard and she is so knowledgeable on this and pancreatic enzymes and more. This is her site http://www.mindbodyrelationshipmedicine.com/

Trudy,
Thank you for sharing this valuable information. With all of the important ladies in my life (wife, mother, daughter…) I want them to know that they can do something about lowering their risk of disease. No one wants to see their loved one sick…thanks for writing this life-saving tip.

What a great reminder -Hugs and sympathy Kyla. I have 3 friends right now in varying stages of breastcancer and the ups and downs are so challenging and its affects spread so far – from family to friends. This illness isnt just about the person who becomes ill. This is a great motivator to get exercising – so easy to put it off. I really needed to hear this. Heidi, my daughter has a puppy and he is such a bouncy thing, thise big brown eyes are hard to resist. Whenever I am at their place I feel I have to take him and baby griffin for a walk – we all end up puffing and laughing – great medicine!
everywomanover29 says
Pinky – so pleased this is a big motivator for you – and enjoy your walks and laughter with the puppy! Sending positive thoughts to your three friends with breast cancer
Terry Monaghan says
Trudy – love this. Thanks for sharing. I have made myself get a personal trainer, who puts me through my paces once a week. And I walk a lot – which I love. But I just remembered that there is a lovely pool downstairs (indoors), and I think I am going to go swimming now – all in service of my health, and it is fun!

Trudy,
You are so right about exercise. It’s amazing what a difference it makes especially when you have a workout buddy.
I slacked for a while and now I’m back to the gym up to 5 times a week and it feels fantastic.
Write on!~

I know that I always have more energy when I am active. I am not a gym person either but I try to get my excercise by walking regularly and playing baseball, bowling, and golf.
I am very impressed with your windsurfing ability. I tried it before years ago and couldn’t even get the sail up. Great picture!
