Wendy Myers, co-host of the Medicinal Supplements Summit, addresses minerals, toxins and heavy metals and shares one her favorite supplements for detox support: modified citrus pectin. This entire interview is fascinating!
I just love Ann Louise Gittleman’s interview on the importance of bile for absorbing fats, hormone production, removing toxins, thyroid health, digestion and anxiety, and so much more. For promoting bile production and thinning, she covers choline, taurine, beets, lipase, bitter greens, apple-cider vinegar, hot lemon water and more.
Tune in to hear these entire interviews and all the other great speakers!

Thank you for your talk on the Medicinal Supplements Summit. My 24-year old daughter has depression and
anxiety with OCD, and I wonder if I could ask a few follow-up questions to the information you presented. She is currently taking 50 mg of 5-HTP in the evening. It was helping with the depression, but makes it difficult for her to sleep. Now it does not seem to work as well and I am hesitant to increase the dose because of the insomnia. I am not sure if she should instead try the Lidtke Tryptophan you referred to, because another speaker said that Tryptophan should not be used alone when there is insomnia. Would you suggest Tryptophan or instead try GABA (Phenitropic)? Can she just stop the 5-HTP and start taking the Tryptophan or GABA immediately, or should she wait awhile? Lidtke has two forms of Tryptophan – the regular and the Complete. Which
one would you recommend? I would really appreciate any advice you > can give – the doctor just wants to put her on RX drugs and I am trying to avoid that. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
Kathy
Glad to hear 5-HTP was helping. I use tryptophan with much success and find some people do better on it than they do on 5-HTP. Some people like the Tryptophan Complete but I like to start with 500mg Tryptophan provided a multi and B complex is also being taken (https://www.everywomanover29.com/blog/tryptophan-500mg-or-tryptophan-complete-lidtke/)
GABA is wonderful for anxiety and often helps insomnia too. I don’t ever use Phenitropic/phenibut due to the fact it can be addicting.
This is how I do trials of the aminos https://www.everywomanover29.com/blog/anxiety-amino-acids-overview/. I like to do one at a time.
There is also an entire chapter on the amino acids in my book “The Antianxiety Food Solution.” Please educate yourself either via the book or this blog.
And don’t forget the basics: real food, no gluten, no caffeine, no sugar, gut health, blood sugar control etc
Thank you!!
Yes loved those 2 talks Trudy, thanks for sharing this info. The PectaSol-C sounds great! I eat a lot of lemon peel zested, wonder if it is doing the same thing as PectaSol-C or not in high enough concentration?
Drew
Sounds yummy but it’s not going to do what modified citrus pectin will do
Thanks for clarifying Trudy…
Hi , just thought I would add something to this thread. I have recently become aware of a product called Lindberg lemon bioflavonoid complex 700mg, it is part of a protocol for menieres symptoms. its made from the rind of the lemon and has hesperidin and rutin. Could this be an option? Apparently not all lemon bioflavonoids are the same but this one is real. FYI
Kaye
It sounds like a great product but it’s not the same
These were two of my favourite talks, Trudy, and YOURS definitely as well….
Thanks for sharing your wonderful information.
thanks Susan!
After hearing you podcast, I ordered Lidtke Technologies L-Tryptophan Capsules. I have problems staying asleep and my mind worrying about anything and everything. I took one the first night and slept a good 4 hours with no issues but then woke up and was restless. The second night I took two pills and the same thing happened. I was wondering if I should try taking 3 before bedtime or 1 at bedtime and one when I wake up four hour later or if me waking up means I need to try a different supplement and low serotonin may not be the issue?
Thanks for any feedback
Tricia
I don’t like adverse effects and would use less in this instance or look elsewhere for the cause – low blood sugar, parasites, high cortisol, gluten etc
Personally, for me, I wouldn’t consider waking up after 4 hours adverse effects because I usually only stay a sleep a couple hours and I fell asleep immediately instead of waiting a hour or so to go to sleep so I feel it is helping but 4 hours was my result. I didn’t know if that made a difference or if I should add Gaba?
If things are better then we add more to see if we can get even better results. If no additional benefits then we trial GABA, keeping the tryptophan we ended with
Thanks
Thank you so much, Trudy! I love your posts!
I was wondering if people with citrus allergies will be okay with the Modified Citrus Pectin.
I am also wondering if it would feed SIBO. I can’t tolerate regular apple pectin because of SIBO.
Thank you.
Tania
Tania
It would likely be problematic in both cases – citrus allergies and SIBO.
My doctor said to take MCP 3x per day but I have SIBO and leaky gut, dysbiosis etc. Not sure it is warranted or wise???
Cindy
I’d suggest asking your doctor
I noticed that the Pectasol-C is much more expensive than other brands of Modified Citrus Pectin. The ingredients listed are the same in comparing Pectasol versus other brands. Why is Pectasol-C so high priced relative to other brands?
Eddie
I’m afraid I don’t know – perhaps check with the formulator of Pectasol-C
Pectosol-C is made by both Clinical Synergy and EcoNugenics. What brand do you recommend?
Joanne
This isn’t a product I’ve used so can’t comment. I’ve always liked the EcoNugenics product which has a few studies by the formulator Dr Eliaz. Here is one paper: The effect of modified citrus pectin on urinary excretion of toxic elements https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/16835878
However Walter Crinnion raises some concerns about these studies saying the authors didn’t not disclose who they were https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19238763 and here http://archive.foundationalmedicinereview.com/publications/13/4/283.pdf I also don’t see the studies replicated by other researchers
I’d recommend checking with a practitioner who uses this type of product and can share clinical results
